I enjoy working with individuals. My holistic approach to counseling is a blend of eastern and western schools of thought – I like to think my clients get the best of both worlds!
I believe in focusing on strengths to get through hard times. I’m less concerned with labeling you with specific disorders or pathologies, and more interested in how to get you moving forward to feel better. My philosophy is rooted in the idea that your thoughts and perceptions shape how you feel, and that changing how you feel is achievable when you learn to think differently. In psychology terms, I draw from person-centered therapy, positive psychology, solution-focused brief therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy
When clients desire a more mind-body approach, sessions may incorporate yoga, mindfulness, and meditation guidance. These sessions are informed by my training as a yoga teacher, independent studies in Buddhist psychology, and training in Somatic Experiencing.
Coaching sessions are designed to move my clients forward in meeting their goals. This form of collaboration is for clients looking to take action, to be held accountable, and to gain a fresh perspective on their struggles.
Do you ever think that you need time to slow down and reflect because life is moving so fast? Have you ever found yourself experiencing a very intense emotion or a deep release of emotion while just going through life? Sometimes these moments happen in the yoga room or during a hike and you might wish you could talk to someone in order to better understand. What just released? How do these feelings relate to my daily life? My history? Do you ever wish that you could more deeply process these emotional experiences? Slower times can help us with emotional concerns.
Talk Yoga is just that – a place to put words to the experiences of our life; both the profound thoughts you have while in nature and the distressful moments when life is rushing by and you feel pressure.
If you already have a yoga practice and you are interested in adding talk in order to access your body’s healing wisdom, I am here to help you. If you want to learn how Talk Yoga and mindfulness can help you feel better, then we will work together to create a personalized home practice of body postures, relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, visualizations, affirmations, and meditations. When we connect in this way to our own wisdom, we may find that channels for creativity unexpectedly open and new energy is at hand.
Talk Yoga sessions range from a more structured “20 minutes of yoga, 30 minutes of counseling” style, to a primarily counseling session with bits of breath work and mindfulness techniques interwoven, to a full session of yoga for focusing on home practice (see Yoga Private Instruction for when this is outside the context of counseling goals).
Benefits of Talk Yoga
Improved flexibility, increased body awareness, and tranquility of the mind are the more obvious goals of yoga. Yet, yoga therapy does so much more for your physical, emotional and spiritual wellness. Some of these benefits are:

- Improve hormonal health (fertility, PMS, menopause)
- Release muscle tension
Research shows that stress can play a significant role in fertility. Yoga has been proven to reduce stress, and some experts believe that specific poses help promote baby making. I offer Talk Yoga sessions specifically designed to help you through this wonderful but often challenging time.
Yoga Private Instruction
For those interested solely in yoga instruction without counseling, I offer private yoga lessons. Historically, yoga was taught individually, by one teacher to one student. Keeping in line with this tradition, I tailor the yoga lesson to meet your needs and your body. One-on-one instruction can provide guidance, help you gain confidence, and answer questions.
Personalized instruction is helpful to develop a greater understanding of yoga and its many rewards — including stress reduction, physical and mental cleansing and strengthening, and deepening your connection to your breathing.
Fees and Payments
The fee for a counseling/ coaching session is $175. Talk yoga sessions are a full hour and cost $200.
Yoga private instruction is $120 per 60 minute lesson.
Payment is due at the beginning of each session. Accepted forms of payment are credit cards, cash, and personal checks.
I am not on any insurance panels and am considered an out-of-network provider. Upon request, you will be provided with a monthly statement to submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
